By Death or Poison :: Part Four

Legolas dropped the book and leaned against the table for support. His head was beginning to throb. The temperature seemed to rise. "The sun cannot rise soon enough," he muttered.

He picked the book back up and sat down. He flipped through the pages a few minutes before stopping.

"Research, again?" remarked Aragorn as he walked in the room. "Don't you think you should rest? You almost passed out a few seconds ago."

"I'll rest soon enough. I have to find out what is wrong with me. Whatever is ailing me, is tearing me apart," Legolas replied. He tore the page out of the book and slipped it in his pocket. "I've never been one to read."

Legolas stood up and walked out of the room, running his hand along the wall as he walked back to his room. He laid down in the bed and sighed. Aragorn stood in the doorway. "You want me to wake you in the morning?" he asked.

Legolas looked at him and smiled, "Yes, I wish to be awoken as soon as my mount is ready. And Aragorn..."

The Ranger turned and looked at him. "Do try and get some sleep," continued Legolas. "You never know what cliffs we may get thrown off of."

Aragorn laughed, "Don't worry, right now you need rest. I'll wake you in the morning."

His eyes opened slowly. "You look horrible," said Aragorn.

Legolas shook his head. "I'm surprised I slept," he replied. He stood up and looked around. His mind was slipping. "I'm surprised I didn't wake up in the dead of the night either."

"Well, you didn't go to sleep until the dead of the night," laughed Aragorn. Legolas ruffled his hair.

"You've got to stop spying on me," he remarked.

Aragorn shrugged and walked down the halls, Legolas following close behind. The Elf looked around and realized that he didn't know his way around here. Strange...he had lived here all his life. There was just something so different about it, but so familiar. He had walked down the hallway countless times in his lifetime, but he just seemed to unfamiliar. Aragorn turned back and saw the bewildered look on his friend's face. "Legolas? What is wrong?" he asked.

"I have no recollection of these halls. Strange...I know this is my home...but.." Legolas let his voice trail off. "There's more to this than either you or I know of..."

Aragorn looked worried, but the expression quickly left his face and was replaced with a smile. "But you'll conquer it...I know you will. You've never let me down. You always seem to come back when I think you're dead. I know you can get over a sickness," he said.

Legolas smiled, "I will get over it, and you're confidence in me is going to help."
